每个人都有自己熟悉或喜欢的表达方式，比如在表示“不客气”时，有人说 “Not at all”，有人说“Don't mention it”，有人说“You are welcome”。所以，为了听懂别人的话，只知道一种表达方式是不够的，你必须知道“Other Ways to Express”。事实上，外国人绝不会按照你掌握的表达方式来与你交谈。学习者可以在掌握一种表达方式（主动表达）的同时熟悉其他类似的表达方式（被动表达），从而有效提高听说能力和写作能力。
   比如，在我们《主流英语国际通用教程》视频讲解的第149课“Going to the Doctor“一文中，我们总结了多种关于“我……疼”的表达方式。比如，头疼的表达方式：“I have a headache”，“My head aches”，“I have a pain in my head”，“I have a sore head”，“My head hurts”，“My head is sore”等。

    • 正确（Correct）：能表达你想表达的意思，用词基本上都是正确的。
    • 合适（Appropriate）：不同语境中能使用不同的词，但未达到精准，没有过多变化。
    • 精确（Exact）：能联系上下文，尽可能用词到位，表达亦比较妥帖，能很好的展示语义，懂得适当变换用词，以做到精准，恰到好处。
    • 灵活（Smart）：懂得很多固定搭配以及约定俗成的表达方法，用词灵活多变，能近乎于地道的进行英语表达。
 
  将Other Ways to Express（词汇或者语言功能表达联想法）纳入课程体系，帮助学习者提高交际能力。
主流英语课程在设计中充分考虑到了学习者在语言实践中的实际需求，在每节课的词汇讲解中设
置了“Other Ways to Express”这一项目，学习者可以在掌握一种表达方式（主动表达）的同时熟悉其他类似的表达方式（被动表达），从而有效提高听说能力和写作能力。
